Miao Ethnic Group Celebrates Traditional New Year Festivities in Guizhou

Hundreds of people from the Miao ethnic group gathered on Monday in Longli County, Guizhou Province, to celebrate the Chinese New Year with vibrant traditional festivities. Dressed in elaborate costumes, Miao girls performed captivating dances accompanied by the melodious tunes of the lusheng, a traditional reed-pipe wind instrument.

The annual folk event is a cherished tradition among the Miao community, symbolizing their rich cultural heritage and hopes for a prosperous year ahead. As the performers gracefully moved in unison, the air was filled with a sense of joy and excitement, drawing locals and visitors alike into the spirited celebration.

“This festival is important for us to honor our ancestors and pray for a good harvest,” said Li Mei, a participant in the festivities. “We are proud to share our culture with others and keep our traditions alive.”
