Chinese ‘Red’ Painting Exhibition Brings Festive Spirit to Madrid

A Chinese ink painting exhibition titled “Red” is captivating visitors at the Usera Municipal Council Exhibition Hall in Madrid. Running from January 28 to February 28, the exhibition showcases 23 vibrant Chinese New Year folk paintings by renowned artist Yue Yu.

Yue Yu, a distinguished painter from Xi’an and director of the Institute of Religious Fine Arts at Northwest University in China, has themed the exhibition around the color red. His works vividly capture the festive spirit and rich traditions of the Chinese New Year, bringing a burst of color and culture to the Spanish capital.

The exhibition is part of the Madrid Spring Festival organized by KDH, an organization dedicated to intercultural events between China and Spain. This year’s festival not only lights up Madrid from February 1 to 28 but will also travel to Shanghai from March 28 to 30, and Xi’an from April 4 to 6, fostering cultural exchange across continents.

According to Madrid’s official tourism website, the city is celebrating the Chinese New Year in the Usera district for the 10th consecutive year. Festivities include fireworks, a parade, a spring race, and a diverse mix of music and food, all designed to share the spirit of the Chinese New Year with a global audience.
