China and Iceland marked the 30th anniversary of the Icelandic Embassy in Beijing with a dynamic event on March 6, 2025, focusing on gender equality and renewable energy. Hosted by the Embassy of Iceland in China and the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), the gathering highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations in promoting sustainable development.
The celebration brought together leaders, experts, and advocates to explore the vital role women play in the renewable energy sector. Icelandic Ambassador Thorir Ibsen and Song Li, a member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women Federation, opened the event with inspiring remarks that set the tone for meaningful discussions on the intersection of gender equality and green energy.
Keynote speakers included María Mjöll Jónsdóttir, Director General of the Political Directorate of the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs; Beate Tranmann, UNDP Resident Representative; and Xin Charlotte Zhao, CEO of Arctic Green Energy China. They engaged in thought-provoking conversations about the challenges and opportunities women face in the renewable energy sector.
The event underscored the shared commitment of China and Iceland to advancing gender inclusivity and green energy innovation. By highlighting women’s contributions to renewable energy, the nations aim to further the global effort to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
