Modern Art Bridges Paper Cutting and Chinese Characters in Beijing

A vibrant new artwork titled “The Thousand Character Patterns Project” is captivating visitors at the “Dian Xi Yi Ben – Shadow Puppetry and Contemporary Art Exhibition” at the Nanchizi Museum in Beijing. Created by contemporary artist Cui Xiaoqing, the piece draws inspiration from the ancient “Thousand Character Classic”, a foundational text that has educated children in China for centuries.

Through the traditional craft of paper cutting, Cui Xiaoqing establishes a connection between the art form and the principles of Chinese character creation. The artwork features bright colors and intricate designs that not only honor cultural heritage but also appeal to modern aesthetics.
