Centuries-Old Qintong Boat Festival Makes Waves in Jiangsu Province

Thousands of spectators gathered at Qinhu National Wetland Park in Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province, as over 500 boats and more than 10,000 participants took part in the 2025 Qintong Boat Festival. The event, held on April 6, showcased vibrant boat races and rich folk culture, creating a passionate and festive atmosphere.

The Qintong Boat Festival is a centuries-old tradition celebrated during the Qingming Festival, originally established to honor ancient soldiers. Today, it has evolved into a popular cultural event, highlighting the region’s heritage and promoting cultural exchange among visitors and locals alike.

Participants adorned their boats with colorful decorations, and teams competed fiercely in races across the waters of the Qinhu National Wetland Park. The festival not only preserves traditional customs but also provides an opportunity for people to connect and appreciate the historical significance of the event.

“The energy here is incredible,” said Li Ming, a participant from a local boat team. “It’s inspiring to see so many young people engaging with our culture and keeping these traditions alive.”

The festival continues to attract tourists from across the country and around the world, cementing its status as a significant cultural celebration in Jiangsu Province.
