The 2025 International Scarecrow Art Festival has officially kicked off at the Mingcui Lake National Wetland Park in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Showcasing the theme of ‘miracles’, the festival features around 40 colossal scarecrow installations and intricate straw sculptures spread across a sprawling 30,000 square meters.
Visitors are greeted by towering figures crafted from straw and other natural materials, blending traditional Chinese agricultural symbols with contemporary art. The festival transforms the wetland park into a whimsical landscape where art and nature converge, offering a unique experience for art enthusiasts and curious explorers alike.
“It’s incredible to see how something as humble as straw can be turned into stunning pieces of art,” said Li Wei, a university student attending the festival. “The giant scarecrows are both impressive and thought-provoking, reminding us of the importance of agriculture in our culture.”
The festival not only celebrates artistic creativity but also highlights environmental sustainability. By utilizing eco-friendly materials, the installations promote awareness about ecological preservation and the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
Workshops and interactive activities are also part of the festival, allowing participants to engage in straw weaving and learn about traditional farming practices. These hands-on experiences aim to connect the younger generation with their cultural heritage and foster appreciation for rural life.
The International Scarecrow Art Festival has become a significant cultural event in Ningxia, attracting visitors from across the region. It offers a fresh perspective on traditional symbols, reinventing them for modern audiences and encouraging a dialogue between the past and the future.
The festival runs through the end of May, providing ample opportunity for locals and tourists to immerse themselves in this extraordinary display of creativity and tradition.
