Chinese director Bi Gan has clinched the Special Award at the 78th Cannes Film Festival for his epic feature “Resurrection”, known in Chinese as “Kuang Ye Shi Dai”. The 35-year-old filmmaker expressed heartfelt gratitude during his acceptance speech, thanking the festival organizers, his dedicated cast, and everyone who has contributed to the growth of cinema.

“Resurrection”, which premiered late Thursday night, is a two-hour and forty-minute journey showcasing Bi’s profound love for the art of filmmaking. The film begins with a silent movie style, paying homage to the roots of cinema while exploring innovative storytelling techniques.
