At the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, renowned Chinese director Feng Xiaogang shared his thoughts on how technological advancements are reshaping the film industry.
During an exclusive interview, Feng discussed the transformative role of technology in filmmaking. “The integration of new technologies like virtual reality and artificial intelligence is opening up limitless possibilities for storytelling,” he said. “It’s changing not just how we create films, but also how audiences experience them.”
Feng emphasized the importance of embracing innovation to stay relevant in the ever-evolving cinematic landscape. He noted that young filmmakers, especially in regions like the Global South, have unprecedented opportunities to tell their stories using accessible technology.
“Technology has lowered the barriers to entry,” Feng explained. “With just a smartphone, anyone can create compelling content. It’s an exciting time for emerging talent to make their mark.”
