Pinghu City in east China’s Zhejiang Province became a hub of excitement from July 8 to 11 as it hosted the 2025 “Straits Cup” Cross-Straits University Baseball and Softball Games. This thrilling event brought together young athletes from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, fostering friendship and understanding through sports.
The four-day tournament featured 15 university teams competing fiercely in three baseball divisions—A, B, and C—as well as a softball category. After 18 exhilarating matches, the champions emerged:
- A Division Baseball: Taipei University of Maritime Technology
- B Division Baseball: East China University of Political Science and Law
- C Division Baseball: Nanjing Tech University’s men’s team
- Softball: Nanjing Tech University’s women’s team
The games were held at the newly inaugurated Xujiadai International Baseball Stadium. Spanning 12,500 square meters and boasting 1,000 permanent seats, the state-of-the-art venue made a grand debut and is set to become a regional center for international baseball events.
Beyond the competition, participants had the chance to explore Pinghu’s rich cultural heritage and rapid urban development. Visits to Mo’s Manor, the city museum, and the emerging automotive technology hub offered insights into the city’s blend of tradition and innovation.
“Pinghu may not be a big city, but its industrial chain appears quite comprehensive,” said Ou Yunhao, a student from Taipei University of Maritime Technology. “Seeing all the new construction projects near the hotel, I can tell that this place is developing fast,” he added.
The event not only showcased athletic talent but also strengthened bonds between young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits, highlighting the unifying power of sports.
