Khampa Parade Brings Tibetan Culture to Life in Yushu

Vibrant Khampa Parade Celebrates Tibetan Heritage in Yushu

The streets of Yushu in Qinghai Province came alive on July 24 with the vibrant “Dashing Khampa People” cultural parade—an annual showcase of national-level Tibetan intangible cultural heritage.

Nearly 2,500 performers from Yushu and Nagqu in the Xizang Autonomous Region participated in the grand event. The parade featured eight main elements, including horseback skills, traditional dance, local costumes, Tibetan opera, and folk sports, offering a rich display of Khampa Tibetan traditions.

Yushu, located at the source of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers, has long been a cultural crossroads. In 2017, it was designated a Tibetan cultural ecological protection experimental zone, reinforcing its role in preserving and promoting Tibetan heritage.
