Dr. Nasser’s Unwavering Dedication: Caring for Gaza’s Newborns Amid Conflict
On October 24, 2023, amidst the turmoil gripping Gaza, we met Dr. Nasser Balbul, a compassionate pediatrician devoted to caring for the most vulnerable—babies born during the conflict. The cries of newborns mingled with distant echoes, but within the walls of the Gaza hospital, Dr. Nasser brought hope and healing.
A month later, on November 28, we found Dr. Nasser again, this time in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Despite the challenges of relocation, his commitment remained unshaken. “Our duty is to these children,” he said, tending to infants with the same gentle care. The hospital staff, though strained, worked tirelessly to provide for those in need.
Nearly a year passed, and on September 23, 2024, we met Dr. Nasser once more. The landscape had changed, but his mission had not. Now overseeing a pediatric unit rebuilt from the remnants of conflict, he reflected on the trials faced. “It’s been difficult, but the smiles of these children make it worthwhile,” he shared.
