Musician Brings Hope to Gaza’s Children Through Music Amid Conflict

Khan Younis, Gaza Strip — In the midst of ongoing conflict, one musician is using the power of music to bring solace to the youngest victims of war. Fehmi Al Saqqa, once a resident of Al-Rimal in Gaza City, now finds himself among the displaced in the Khan Younis refugee camp.

As the sounds of conflict echo around them, Fehmi gathers the children of the camp, sharing melodies and teaching them songs. “Music is a universal language,” he says. “It can heal wounds that no medicine can touch.”

Since the fighting intensified on October 7, 2023, thousands have been forced from their homes. Amidst the fear and uncertainty, Fehmi believes that music can offer a beacon of hope. “When we sing, we forget our fears, even if just for a moment,” he shares.

Parents in the camp have welcomed his efforts. “My children look forward to Fehmi’s lessons,” says Aisha, a mother of three. “It’s the only time they smile these days.”

Fehmi’s initiative is more than just music; it’s a form of resistance against despair. “We cannot control the situation around us,” he says, “but we can choose how we respond to it. Through music, we choose hope over fear.”
