When most graduates head for big cities to pursue their careers, 24-year-old Tian Shuxian took a different path. Armed with a master’s degree, she returned to her rural hometown in China’s Hubei Province, determined to make a difference.
“I wanted to bring what I learned back home,” Tian said. “Our village has so much potential, and I believed modern technology could unlock it.”
She introduced smart farming techniques to local farmers, helping them adopt modern tools and methods to boost efficiency and yields. But Tian didn’t stop there; she pioneered an integrated farming model combining rice, crayfish, and ducks.
“The integrated model is sustainable and maximizes our resources,” she explained. “Ducks help control pests in the rice fields, and crayfish thrive in the water systems.”
Tian’s efforts have not only modernized agriculture in her village but also inspired other young people to explore opportunities in rural areas. “It’s about making a positive impact where it matters most,” she added with a smile.
