SANYOU VILLAGE, XIZANG AUTONOMOUS REGION — Caring for the elderly is a challenge in many places, but on the rugged Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, it can be especially difficult. However, the elders of Sanyou Village have found new hope at a recently launched community-based elderly daycare center.
The center, established with the support of a dedicated team from Jiangsu Province, has become a vibrant hub for the village’s senior residents. Among them is Grandma Dolma, who beams with joy as she participates in daily activities. “I look forward to coming here every day,” she says. “I get to spend time with my friends and learn new things.”
The daycare center offers various programs, including traditional song and dance, handicrafts, and language classes. It’s not just a place for care; it’s a place for community. Young volunteers from the team engage with the elders, bridging generational gaps and preserving cultural heritage.
“Our goal is to enrich the lives of the elderly,” says Li Ming, one of the volunteers from Jiangsu Province. “We want to ensure they feel valued and connected.”
This initiative reflects a growing effort to support aging populations in rural areas. By focusing on community-based care, Sanyou Village is setting an example of how mutual support and cooperation can make a significant difference.
