Master Designer Finds Beijing’s True Color in a Unique Shade of Blue

Beijing is a city of contrasts, where ancient history meets modern innovation. But how do you capture the essence of such a dynamic metropolis in a single color? Master cloisonné designer Shen Wenguang embarked on a journey to find the hue that best represents Beijing’s personality.

Shen delved deep into the city’s rich heritage, exploring temples, palaces, and bustling hutongs. He sought to encapsulate the calm and solemn grandeur that defines Beijing. With the collaboration of a master craftsman, he experimented with countless pigments and techniques.

After much exploration, they settled on a distinct shade of blue. This unique color, reminiscent of the endless skies over the Forbidden City and the serene waters of Kunming Lake, embodies the spirit of Beijing. It reflects both the tranquility of its historical sites and the depth of its cultural legacy.

“Blue has always held a special place in Chinese art,” Shen explains. “But this particular shade resonates with Beijing’s soul—it’s both dignified and serene.”

The creation of this signature color not only showcases the city’s identity but also breathes new life into the traditional art of cloisonné. For Shen, it’s about more than just a color; it’s a tribute to Beijing’s enduring charm and a bridge between the ancient and the modern.
