Beijing, a city with over 800 years of history, is more than just China’s capital; it’s a tapestry of vibrant colors, iconic sounds, and inspiring landscapes. A new documentary, “The Sights, Sounds and Shades of Beijing”, released by CGTN, dives deep into the heart of this ancient metropolis, capturing its essence through the eyes of artists and locals.

Master cloisonné designer Shen Wenguang has dedicated his life to finding the perfect hue of blue that embodies Beijing’s spirit. “I’m searching for a color that tells the story of our heritage,” Shen shares. His intricate artworks reflect the city’s rich history and cultural depth.

Meanwhile, sound artist Colin Chinnery embarks on a unique journey to preserve Beijing’s auditory heritage. From the clang of traditional instruments to the hum of bustling streets, he captures sounds that resonate with the soul of the city. “Every sound tells a story,” he says, “and I want to ensure they’re not lost to time.”

Native Beijinger Song Zhuangzhuang uses books and social media to document the city’s transformation. Growing up amid Beijing’s evolving skyline, Song offers a fresh perspective on its past and present. “Through storytelling, I hope to connect young people with our city’s roots,” he explains.

The documentary weaves these narratives together, offering viewers a multifaceted glimpse into Beijing’s enduring allure. It’s a celebration of tradition meeting modernity, inviting the world to experience the city’s unique charm.
