Photographer’s Journey: Capturing Mazu’s Spirit Across the Taiwan Strait

For the past three years, photographer Wang Wen-hsien from Beigang Town on the island of Taiwan has been embarking on a captivating journey across the Taiwan Strait to Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, southeastern China. His mission is to capture the vibrant events related to Mazu, the revered goddess of the sea celebrated across southern China and beyond.

Mazu, known as the guardian of sailors and fishermen, holds a cherished place in the hearts of coastal communities. Wang’s dedication to photographing the traditions and festivities surrounding Mazu has not only allowed him to document rich cultural practices but also to build bridges between people on both sides of the strait.
