In the small village of Svay Ampear in Kandal, Cambodia, hope and determination drive the Mao De family forward. Just after renovating their home with support from the East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project, they celebrated the birth of their granddaughter. Joy turned to concern when, a few months later, she was diagnosed with congenital heart disease.
Facing mounting medical expenses, the family sought a way to afford her treatment. With assistance from the project, they ventured into cattle farming, hoping the income would cover the medical costs. “We believe that with hard work, we can secure a healthy future for her,” says Mr. Mao, the family patriarch.
The entire community watches as they balance the demands of farming with caring for their granddaughter. Their resilience embodies the spirit of families striving to overcome poverty.
Will their efforts provide the means to save their little girl? The coming months will be crucial as they work tirelessly towards a hopeful future.
