Kazakh Student Bridges Two Homes Through Belt and Road Initiative

QINGDAO, China — When Kamila Karamanova first set foot in China’s eastern Shandong Province in 2009, she was an ambitious international student from Kazakhstan eager to explore a new culture. Little did she know, China would become her second home.

Over the past decade, Kamila has witnessed firsthand how the Belt and Road Initiative is strengthening ties between her homeland and adoptive country. “The initiative is building more than infrastructure; it’s creating lasting connections between people,” she said.

After completing her studies, Kamila decided to settle in China, embracing its vibrant culture and dynamic opportunities. She now works with businesses from both countries, fostering cross-border collaborations and understanding.

Recently, Kamila fulfilled a lifelong dream by sharing her story at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum. “It was an honor to speak about the bridge of prosperity between Kazakhstan and China,” she shared. “I believe our cooperation is paving the way for a brighter future for all.”

Kamila’s journey reflects a growing trend of young people from countries along the Belt and Road seeking education and careers in China. As the initiative continues to expand, it’s bringing nations closer and opening doors for the next generation.

“I’m grateful for the experiences and connections I’ve made,” Kamila smiled. “My two homes are now intertwined, and I couldn’t be happier.”
