Peru is gearing up to host this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and excitement is building among locals about the opportunities it could bring. With China being Peru’s largest trading partner for a decade, the relationship between the two nations is stronger than ever.
In October 2023, Chinese companies completed the main construction of the Chancay Tunnel, a significant milestone for the development of the Chancay Port. This project is expected to enhance local economic growth, create jobs, and establish a new trade route linking Latin America with the Asia-Pacific region.
Katherine Torres, a resident of Lima, expressed her hopes for the APEC meeting. “I expect this year’s APEC to address investment issues and the opportunities they will provide,” she said.
Another local, Karla Santuyomarca, shared her enthusiasm for the Chancay project. “It’s great for Peru’s economy as it will save time, increase efficiency, and bring new opportunities to Peru,” she remarked.
As the APEC summit approaches, Peruvians are optimistic about the future, looking forward to strengthened cooperation with China and the economic benefits that major projects like the Chancay Port will bring.
