In the bustling streets of Lima, a Chinese man named Pan Chengzun has been quietly weaving a tapestry of cultural connection for over two decades.
Arriving in Peru more than 20 years ago, Pan brought with him the ancient practices of traditional Chinese medicine. In 1996, he made history by becoming the first acupuncturist at the Hospital of EsSalud, opening doors to alternative healing methods for thousands of Peruvians.
“Through acupuncture, I found a universal language,” Pan reflects. “Healing knows no borders.”
Beyond medicine, Pan immersed himself in the vibrant culture of Peru. He discovered striking similarities between his homeland and his new home. “Both Chinese and Peruvian people deeply value family and friendship,” he notes. “These shared values made me feel at home.”
Pan didn’t stop at healing; he actively participated in cultural exchange activities, aiming to strengthen the bond between China and Peru. His efforts symbolize the growing relationship between the two nations, especially as China became Peru’s largest trading partner in 2013.
“The economies of China and Peru complement each other,” Pan explains. “Peru has rich natural resources, and China brings advanced technology and development experience.”
Looking forward, Pan is optimistic. “I believe the friendship between our countries will continue to thrive,” he says with a warm smile. “Together, we can achieve cooperation and win-win outcomes.”
