Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden recently met in Lima, Peru, engaging in a conversation described as candid, profound, and constructive. Both leaders agreed to keep in touch and highlighted the importance of open communication between their countries.
They emphasized the need for regular contact between diplomatic and security teams and underscored dialogue on military relations, economic and trade ties, and financial issues.
Breno Giovanni Adaid Castro, a professor at the Higher Education Institute of Brasilia, shared his thoughts on the meeting. “China and the U.S. are both world powers,” Castro said. “If they can improve and promote free trade, it will be good for all other countries looking to trade with them.”
He believes that mutual respect and peaceful consultation between the two nations are key to creating new opportunities for cooperation and development, especially when differences arise.
For young people in the Global South, increased collaboration between China and the U.S. could mean more opportunities and a stronger global economy that benefits everyone.
