Macau, China — For Indian PhD student Prakriti Mukherjee, Macau is more than just a place to study; it’s a vibrant crossroads of cultures that she now calls home.
Enrolled at the University of Macau, Mukherjee is pursuing a doctorate in philosophy and religious studies. Her fascination with Chinese culture drew her to the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR), where East meets West in a unique blend.
“I can see the two different cultures meeting here. It’s quite interesting,” she shared, describing how the city’s rich Portuguese heritage intertwines with traditional Chinese customs.
Mukherjee believes that Macau is exceptionally welcoming to foreigners, a quality that has deepened her affection for the city. “The Macau SAR is very friendly to foreigners, which is why I fell in love with Macau and want to stay and work here in the future,” she said.
Her story reflects the growing appeal of Macau as a destination for international students seeking a multicultural experience in a dynamic setting.
