Dreams Amid Conflict: Malak’s Hope for 2025
In the heart of Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza, 18-year-old Malak Ahmed Youssef holds onto her dream of attending university. The year 2024 was supposed to mark the beginning of her higher education journey, but the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict put her plans on hold.
“I was ready to start my first year at university,” Malak shares. “But the war changed everything. Schools closed, and safety became our only concern.”
Over the past year, the Gaza Strip has faced an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. The conflict has claimed over 45,000 Palestinian lives, with more than 106,000 people injured. Amidst the turmoil, young people like Malak have struggled to pursue their education.
As 2025 approaches, Malak remains hopeful. “I want to enjoy a beautiful university life next year,” she says with a determined smile. “I dream of walking the campus, meeting new friends, and achieving academic success.”
Her resilience echoes across Gaza, where many students share similar aspirations despite the challenges. “Education is our future,” Malak adds. “No matter what happens, we won’t give up on our dreams.”
For Malak and countless others, 2025 is not just another year—it’s a beacon of hope for peace, normalcy, and the chance to build a brighter future.
