German Student Immerses in Vibrant Chinese New Year Celebrations

As an exchange student at Tongji University in Shanghai, German student Furisai experienced a Chinese New Year unlike any other. The Spring Festival, the Chinese mainland’s most significant holiday, symbolizes family reunions and the transition from the old year to the new.

“The streets were alive with vibrant decorations and an energy I had never felt before,” shares Furisai. “Everywhere I looked, there were red lanterns, dragon dances, and the aroma of delicious food.”

One of the highlights for him was making dumplings with a local family. “They welcomed me into their home and taught me how to make traditional dumplings. It was heartwarming to be a part of their family traditions,” he recalls.

The bustling streets, filled with fireworks and festivities, left a lasting impression. “It is such a special celebration, and I feel super lucky to have been a part of it,” says Furisai.

His experience not only enriched his understanding of Chinese culture but also highlighted the importance of cross-cultural exchanges. “I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone and experience celebrations in different parts of the world,” he adds.

As the new year brings hope and new beginnings, stories like that of Furisai remind us of the beauty of sharing traditions and embracing diversity.
