For the past 13 years, New York-based filmmaker Soraya Arrabal has been captivated by the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. Collaborating closely with Chinese colleagues and traveling to Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province has deepened her appreciation for the country’s astonishing cultural diversity.
“Working closely with Chinese people naturally led me to fall in love with the culture,” Soraya shares. From the diverse culinary delights to the vibrant local traditions, she finds every aspect of China’s heritage fascinating.
As a filmmaker, Soraya admires the acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai most. She praises his unique shooting techniques and storytelling style, considering them profound interpretations of China. “His films encapsulate the essence of Chinese culture,” she explains.
Beyond the artistry, Soraya feels a deep connection to the romance embedded within Chinese culture. “There’s a rich sense of romance that permeates the traditions and stories,” she says. This profound appreciation continues to inspire her both personally and professionally.
