Residents of Taiwan are expressing hope for improved relations with the Chinese mainland amid rising tensions following recent actions by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te.
At a recent press conference, Lai Ching-te unveiled 17 strategies aimed at countering perceived “threats” to the island, labeling the Chinese mainland as a “hostile external force.” This stance has heightened concerns among those who fear it may further strain cross-Strait relations.
Mr. Lin, a resident of Taiwan, shared his perspective on the issue. “After Lai Ching-te took office, cross-Strait relations have become very tense, which goes against the public’s desire for peace,” he said. “I hope that in the future, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland can truly establish a bridge of friendly communication. Then we can gradually move toward a fully unified territory.”
Many in Taiwan are calling for increased dialogue and cooperation to ease tensions and promote mutual understanding. The desire for peace and unity resonates strongly among those who envision a future where open communication leads to harmonious relations across the Taiwan Strait.
