German Gen Z Student Shares Love for Chinese Films at Beijing Festival

The 15th Beijing International Film Festival is lighting up the Chinese capital from April 18 to 26, celebrating the rich tapestry of global cinema. Amid the excitement, German student Furuisai, who once lived in Shanghai, shared his enthusiasm for Chinese films that have captured his heart.

“Chinese cinema has so much to offer,” says the young student. He’s particularly fond of Chinese animation, comedy, and science fiction genres. Titles like “Ne Zha”, “Hi, Mom”, and “The Wandering Earth” top his list of favorites.

For Furuisai, “Ne Zha” stands out. “The story of being misunderstood yet choosing to fight for your own path really touched me,” he shares. The film’s themes of self-determination and resilience resonate with many in his generation.

As the world approaches the 130th anniversary of cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema in 2025, Furuisai believes there’s immense potential for Chinese films on the international stage. “I hope to see more international cooperation in this field,” he says, envisioning a future where stories from China continue to engage audiences worldwide.

The perspectives of global youth like Furuisai highlight the universal appeal of storytelling and the bridging of cultures through film. As the Beijing International Film Festival continues, it’s clear that cinema remains a powerful medium for connection and understanding across borders.
