The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival kicked off at the Shanghai Grand Theatre on June 14, drawing global attention with a lineup of over 400 domestic and international films. Running through June 22, the festival commemorates the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema.

Among the attendees is Klaudia Anna Misztal, a Polish student studying at Hainan University. She shared her admiration for Chinese cinema, emphasizing its ability to highlight societal successes and instill strong morals among the people.

“What I appreciate about the Chinese cinema industry is that it is not afraid of highlighting the society’s successes and achievements,” Misztal said. “I think it builds strong morals among the people and gives them hope.”

The festival serves as a cultural bridge, connecting audiences from around the world and showcasing the evolving landscape of Chinese cinema. For many young people like Misztal, it offers a unique opportunity to engage with diverse narratives and perspectives.

As the Shanghai International Film Festival continues to unfold, it not only celebrates cinematic milestones but also fosters cross-cultural understanding among the youth of the Global South and beyond.
