Kazakh Student Praises Depth and Vitality of Chinese Cinema at Shanghai Film Festival

The 27th Shanghai Film Festival kicked off on June 14 at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, showcasing over 400 domestic and international films across the city. The festival, which runs until June 22, marks the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema, drawing the attention of film enthusiasts worldwide.

Among the attendees is Milla, a young film enthusiast from Kazakhstan studying at Tsinghua University. Milla shared her passion for Chinese cinema, highlighting its profound depth and cultural significance.

“My first exposure to Chinese films was while preparing for the HSK exam,” Milla explained. “I discovered that Chinese movies are not only entertaining but also rich in complexity, conveying deep emotions and important social messages.”

Milla emphasized that Chinese cinema goes beyond entertainment. “It’s an art form that evokes reflection and emotional resonance,” she said. “The stories and characters leave a lasting impact and offer unique insights into Chinese culture.”

She expressed excitement for the future of Chinese cinema. “I look forward to its innovation and development,” Milla said. “I believe Chinese cinema will continue to showcase its unique cultural charm to audiences around the world.”
