Tel Aviv Locals Turn Underground Parking Lot into Shelter Amid Conflict

As tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, residents of Tel Aviv are finding refuge in an unlikely place: underground parking lots. On June 22, Iran launched a series of missile attacks against Israel, hours after the United States conducted strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites.

According to Israel’s Ministry of Health, at least 86 people have been wounded in the attacks. In response to the rising threat, a shopping mall’s underground parking lot in central Tel Aviv has been transformed into a makeshift shelter.

Local residents have set up tents and are staying in the underground space to protect themselves from the ongoing conflict. One resident shared her experience, saying, “I feel more comfortable here because it’s a safe place, even though this is an underground parking. And here we have a lot of people helping each other.”

The community has come together to support one another during these uncertain times. The underground shelter not only offers physical safety but also fosters a sense of unity among those seeking refuge.

As the situation continues to unfold, residents are adapting to their new reality, demonstrating resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
