The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival lit up the city from June 14 to June 22, showcasing over 400 films from around the globe. Among the captivated attendees was Mahya, an Iranian student, who expressed her hopes for increased cinematic collaboration between China and Iran.
Mahya, currently studying in Beijing, noted the growing appreciation of Chinese films and television shows among Iranian youth. “Many people from Iran and other countries I know have had the opportunity to learn Chinese because of their love for Chinese films and TV shows,” she said. “We hope to enjoy Chinese films and television shows without translation.”
She believes that this cultural exchange is a significant achievement, highlighting the influence of Chinese culture worldwide. “Chinese cinema has a unique charm that resonates with audiences in Iran,” Mahya added. “By integrating the rich cultures of both nations, we can create joint works that inspire and connect our people.”
The festival, which commemorated the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema, served as a bridge for international filmmakers and enthusiasts. The prospect of China and Iran collaborating in filmmaking opens doors for enriched storytelling and deeper mutual understanding.
“I hope China and Iran will have more cooperation in the field of filmmaking,” Mahya shared. “Our long-standing cultures have so much to offer each other. Together, we can produce films that showcase our shared values and diverse traditions.”
The enthusiasm of young people like Mahya underscores the potential for cinema to foster global connections.
