The 17th BRICS Summit, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 6-7, has spotlighted the growing opportunities for youth in member countries. Among those sharing their perspectives is Aluwani Mavhungu, a student at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.
Mavhungu highlighted how the BRICS framework has opened doors for students like her, emphasizing the benefits of cultural exchange programs. “Two of my friends were able to study in Russia thanks to BRICS initiatives,” she said. “These programs make education more accessible and promote technological exchanges among our countries.”
The BRICS alliance—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—is known for fostering cooperation in various sectors, including education and technology. For many young people in the Global South, these collaborations offer a pathway to broaden their horizons and gain valuable international experience.
“It’s inspiring to see how BRICS is investing in the youth,” Mavhungu added. “Such opportunities not only enhance our education but also strengthen the ties between our nations.”
As the summit continues, the focus remains on how BRICS nations can further support initiatives that empower the next generation through education and technological advancement.
