China Unveils Action Plan to Promote Climate Change Adaptation

China Unveils Plan to Boost Climate Change Adaptation Worldwide

China is stepping up to help the world tackle climate change with a brand-new action plan focused on boosting climate adaptation around the globe.

At the COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, China unveiled its “Action Plan for Early Warning Systems to Promote Climate Change Adaptation (2025-2027).” This plan shows China’s commitment to helping developing countries enhance their ability to adapt to climate impacts.

The action plan zeroes in on four main areas: sharing know-how on climate risk assessment, building platforms for climate risk monitoring and forecasting, exchanging experiences in creating climate-adaptive societies, and boosting early warning capabilities in developing nations.

One exciting part of the plan is China’s launch of three Fengyun geostationary meteorological satellites in the next two years. These satellites will provide real-time monitoring of weather disasters for countries across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, helping them prepare and respond more effectively.

China is also rolling out a South-South cooperation project focusing on early warnings for climate change. Through this initiative, developing countries will receive meteorological observation equipment and cloud-based early warning systems to improve their resilience.

In a show of global partnership, the China Meteorological Administration and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment have teamed up with the World Meteorological Organization to support the UN’s “Early Warnings for All” initiative.

By sharing technology and expertise, China is fostering international collaboration to combat climate change. This action plan is a significant step toward building a safer, more climate-resilient world for everyone.
