Deadly Typhoon Man-yi Batters Philippines, Claims 8 Lives

At least eight people have been killed after Super Typhoon Man-yi slammed into the Philippines over the weekend, triggering widespread flooding and landslides.

The Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirmed that seven people lost their lives in Ambaguio town when their home was buried by a landslide.

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos reported that another man died in Camarines Norte province, southeast of Manila.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the country’s top disaster agency, has yet to release an official report on the deaths and damages caused by Man-yi.

Man-yi is the sixth powerful typhoon to strike the Philippines in less than a month and the 16th tropical cyclone to hit the country this year.

The consecutive typhoons have unleashed heavy rains, causing severe flooding and landslides that have devastated parts of Luzon and other regions across the archipelago.

The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippines on Monday afternoon.
