China Experiences Warmest Year on Record in 2024

China has experienced its warmest year on record in 2024, with average temperatures reaching unprecedented levels, according to the National Climate Center.

The national average temperature stood at 10.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.01 degrees Celsius above the annual average. This breaks the previous record set in 2023, when the average temperature was 10.71 degrees Celsius.

A total of 19 provincial-level regions, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, and Shaanxi, logged record-high temperatures last year.

In addition to the soaring temperatures, China also experienced higher precipitation levels. The average rainfall across the country reached 697.7 millimeters in 2024, which is 9 percent more than the annual average.
