China’s meteorological authority has issued a blue alert for a cold wave expected to sweep across the country starting Wednesday, causing temperatures to drop significantly in most regions.
According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), the cold wave will bring temperature decreases of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius in the Huanghuai region—which includes parts of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong provinces—and areas north of it.
In the southern regions, temperatures are forecasted to decline by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. Some areas may experience a drop exceeding 10 degrees Celsius, the NMC added.
The NMC has also issued a yellow alert for strong winds. From Wednesday to Thursday, powerful winds are expected in the Xizang Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and parts of the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea, the East Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel, and the South China Sea.
China utilizes a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red indicating the most severe conditions, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. The blue alert advises residents to prepare for significant weather changes.
Authorities are urging people to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts, dress warmly, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the cold spell.
