China Renews Yellow Alert for Strong Winds

China Issues Yellow Alert for Strong Winds Amid Asian Winter Games

BEIJING, February 8, 2025 — China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) has renewed a yellow alert for strong winds and significant temperature drops in parts of the country, particularly in northeastern Heilongjiang Province, where the 9th Asian Winter Games are currently underway.

From 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, residents in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hebei Province, Xizang Autonomous Region, and Qinghai Province can expect strong winds. Powerful gusts are also forecasted over parts of the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, waters east of Taiwan Island, the Bashi Channel, and the South China Sea.

While the NMC has ended Friday’s blue alert for a cold wave, it notes that temperatures are set to plunge in Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang Province. Some areas in Heilongjiang could experience drops of up to 10 degrees Celsius.

The NMC advises residents and visitors, especially athletes and spectators of the Asian Winter Games, to stay updated on weather reports and take necessary precautions against the cold and strong winds.

China’s weather warning system is color-coded in four levels, with red representing the most severe conditions, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
