China Continues to Prioritize Eco protection Pursue Green Development

China Steps Up Green Efforts, Aims for a Cleaner Future

China is ramping up its efforts to protect the environment and embrace green development. At the opening meeting of the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) on Wednesday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a government work report highlighting significant strides made in reducing pollution and promoting sustainable energy.

“We implemented major projects for protecting and restoring key ecosystems and realized a further reduction in the areas of both deserts and sandy lands,” Premier Li said. He noted that China’s push toward energy conservation and carbon reduction has led to a rise in electricity generated from non-fossil fuels, now accounting for nearly 40 percent of total power generation.

China also launched the National Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Trading Market, making carbon emissions trading increasingly active. This initiative is part of China’s commitment to combat climate change and promote low-carbon development.

Looking ahead to 2025, China plans to continue prioritizing ecological protection and green development. The government is set to formulate action plans for the comprehensive treatment of solid waste and will adopt a holistic approach to protect ecosystems, including mountains, forests, farmlands, grasslands, and deserts.

Major biodiversity conservation programs will be initiated, and the ongoing 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River will be strictly enforced. China aims to foster a healthier environment through the Beautiful China Initiative, meeting people’s expectations for cleaner surroundings.

Policies supporting green and low-carbon development will be refined, encouraging the growth of eco-friendly industries. Demonstration programs for the latest green technologies will be carried out, and incentives for eco-friendly consumption will be boosted to promote sustainable lifestyles.

China will advance trials for peaking carbon emissions and establish zero-carbon industrial parks and factories. Trials for low-carbon upgrades in coal-fired power plants will be launched, and major projects to address climate change will be developed. The country also plans to actively participate in global environmental and climate governance.

With these efforts, China continues to position itself as a leader in environmental protection and green development, aiming for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
