Qingdao Celebrated for Advancing UN Ocean Science Goals

Qingdao, a vibrant coastal city in eastern China, has been recognized for its significant contributions to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). At the 2024 Global Ocean Development Forum held in Qingdao, Peter Thomson, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, praised the city for its substantial investments in ocean science.

“Qingdao is playing a very important role because you have huge investment here in the UN Decade of Ocean Science,” Thomson remarked, applauding the city’s support for global ocean initiatives.
