During his first state visit to China from October 28 to 31, Finnish President Alexander Stubb met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen the longstanding relationship between Finland and China.
“China is a patient power,” President Stubb remarked after their meeting. “The conversational chemistry was good, and we are eager to promote our future-oriented partnership.”
Finland was among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China in 1950 and the first to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement in 1953. Building on this history, both nations have issued a joint action plan promoting a new type of cooperative partnership for 2025-2029.
“Leadership is endurance, perseverance, and grit,” Stubb explained, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in international relations. He expressed optimism about the future of China-Finland relations and the potential benefits for both countries.
The joint action plan aims to enhance collaboration in various fields, including trade, technology, and cultural exchange, signaling a new chapter in bilateral ties.
