Ciie a Symbol of Globalization and an Antithesis of Protectionism

China’s CIIE 2023: A Beacon of Globalization Against Protectionism

The seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) has kicked off, standing as a powerful symbol of globalization and openness in a world increasingly challenged by protectionism. Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and expanding China’s opening-up to promote lasting peace, stability, development, and prosperity.

Over the past six years, the CIIE has seen participation from companies in 173 countries and regions, with transactions exceeding $424 billion. Each year, more than 2,400 new products, technologies, and services make their debut at the expo, highlighting its role as a premier platform for innovation.

This year’s expo sets new records, hosting exhibitors from 152 countries and regions, including 297 Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders. The event offers unparalleled opportunities for businesses worldwide to showcase their latest innovations to one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing consumer markets.

Notably, the expo isn’t just for big players. The CIIE features an Innovation Incubation section aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with a level playing field to promote their products. Over 120 complimentary booths have been provided to exhibitors from 37 least-developed countries, helping them connect with China’s high-quality demand and expand their export opportunities.

Amid global tensions and regional conflicts, especially in the Middle East, the CIIE conveys a treasured message of cooperation, peace, and mutual coexistence. By bringing together diverse nations and fostering cross-cultural interactions, the expo promotes transnational harmony and contributes to global stability and prosperity.

The CIIE also encourages healthy competition and a green transition. This year, 40 awards were presented to companies with groundbreaking technologies in green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and clean energy innovation.

Since its inception in 2018, the CIIE has stood as an antithesis to protectionism and unilateralism, epitomizing trade liberalization and economic globalization. Its continued success reflects global confidence in China’s commitment to sharing the benefits of its economic dynamism with the world.
