In a world grappling with uncertainty, China’s call for mutual respect and cooperation shines as a beacon of hope. At a recent press conference on the sidelines of the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Foreign Minister, emphasized the importance of fostering positive international relations.
“Mutual respect is a basic norm governing state-to-state relations. It is also an important prerequisite for China-U.S. relations,” Wang Yi stated. His message comes at a time when global tensions are high, and cooperation between major powers is crucial for global stability.
Despite challenges, China remains committed to open collaboration. Wang Yi highlighted that where there is suppression, there is innovation. China’s advancements in science and technology, achieved despite external pressures, exemplify this spirit. From pioneering breakthroughs to ongoing technological developments, China’s determination to innovate continues unabated.
China’s vision extends beyond its borders. Initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative have garnered support from over 100 countries. Additionally, the Belt and Road Initiative has seen cooperation pledges from more than three-quarters of the world’s nations.
“Given the extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation, it is fully possible for China and the United States to become partners helping each other succeed and prosper together,” Wang Yi expressed, underscoring the potential for positive engagement between the two countries.
However, Wang Yi cautioned against double standards and two-faced actions that hinder trust and stability in international relations. “No country should fantasize that it can suppress China and maintain good relations with China at the same time,” he remarked.
As the world navigates through complexities, China’s commitment to sharing opportunities and embracing modernization offers a path toward a more certain future. “History will prove that a real winner is the one that keeps in mind the interests of all,” Wang Yi concluded.
China’s message is clear: in an interconnected world, cooperation and mutual respect are essential for overcoming challenges and achieving shared prosperity.
