GUANGZHOU, China — Former Prime Minister of Lebanon Hassan Diab has called for greater understanding of China's development, emphasizing its potential benefits for the Middle East. Attending the "Understanding China" conference in Guangzhou, Diab highlighted how China's modernization could offer valuable lessons for countries grappling with economic challenges.
"The more people understand China, the more they support China," Diab said in an exclusive interview. "We have to accept that China is already a global power."
Diab discussed how China's rapid reforms and progress can contribute to global development in a collaborative manner. He believes that by learning from China's experience, Lebanon and other conflict-ridden countries in the Middle East can find pathways to regain stability and prosperity.
"China's approach to modernization isn't just about economic growth," he noted. "It's about lifting people out of poverty, investing in technology, and fostering international cooperation."
The former prime minister underscored the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding. "It's crucial for young people, especially in the Global South, to look beyond stereotypes and see the opportunities that come with engaging with China," he added.
Diab's participation in the conference signifies a growing interest among Middle Eastern leaders in China's development model. As China continues to expand its global influence, such engagements may pave the way for stronger ties and collaborative growth between China and countries in the Middle East.
