In an exclusive interview, Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook confirmed that the China-backed East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is moving forward as planned, despite global uncertainties.
Loke emphasized the strong collaboration between Malaysia and the Chinese mainland in both building and operating the ECRL. With a combined market of over 2.68 billion people across China and ASEAN, the project is set to boost trade, enhance connectivity, and foster shared prosperity in the region.
“It’s more than just rail,” Loke stated. “It’s a long-term partnership for regional development.”
The ECRL is expected to be a game-changer, linking Malaysia’s east coast to the west and providing vital connections to the broader Southeast Asian region.
