China is making significant strides in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, reshaping global technology competition. Following a recent high-level Politburo meeting emphasizing AI development with a focus on self-reliance and safety, the country’s technological advancements are gaining global attention.
Breakthroughs like DeepSeek AI, a cutting-edge technology in data analysis, and the development of advanced humanoid robots are positioning China as a key player in the tech world. These innovations are not only boosting the Chinese economy but also influencing global trends in technology and innovation.
Experts shared their insights during a recent edition of The Hub with Wang Guan. Gai Keke, a professor at the School of Cyberspace Science and Technology at Beijing Institute of Technology, emphasized the importance of fostering homegrown AI solutions. “Self-reliance in AI technology ensures that we can develop tools tailored to our unique needs while maintaining safety and security,” she said.
Angela Li, chair of the LSE China Development Forum, discussed how China’s focus on AI is impacting global markets. “China’s advancements are propelling competition, encouraging other nations to accelerate their own tech developments,” Li noted.
Thorsten Jelinek, Europe director and senior fellow at the Taihe Institute, highlighted collaborative opportunities. “China’s tech growth opens doors for international cooperation, especially in areas like AI ethics and regulation,” he commented.
Andy Mok, senior research fellow at the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), emphasized the global implications. “As China continues to innovate, it’s essential for the world to engage and understand these developments to foster mutual growth,” he stated.
From the industry perspective, Tan Min, chief business officer at UBTech Robotics, shared insights on how humanoid robotics are transforming industries. “Our advancements in robotics are not just about technology; they’re about improving people’s lives and creating a better future,” Tan explained.
