Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on May 7 for his 11th visit to Russia, joining celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War.
President Xi emphasized China’s profound desire for peace and highlighted the strength of the China-Russia relationship. “Our nations have stood together through history, and our partnership remains vital for global stability,” he stated.
The visit underscores the historical bonds between the two countries, rooted in their joint struggle against fascism during World War II. Despite their significant contributions, both nations feel that their efforts have often been underrated in the West.
Journalist Wang Guan spoke with international analysts Mark Sleboda, Zhao Long, and Rong Ying about the significance of China and Russia’s roles in WWII. They emphasized how these sacrifices have been overlooked in Western narratives.
“China and Russia played pivotal roles in defeating fascism,” said Zhao Long, a senior fellow at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. “Recognizing this history is essential for fostering a multipolar world.”
The panelists highlighted that the strengthened ties between the Chinese mainland and Russia are not just about honoring the past but also about shaping a future of global cooperation.
