China us Cooperation Key to Global Economic Confidence

China-U.S. Trade Talks Spark Hope for Global Economy

Officials from China and the United States recently concluded promising economic and trade talks in London, marking a key step toward enhancing global economic confidence. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng led the Chinese delegation in an in-depth dialogue with U.S. representatives, aiming to resolve differences and promote cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.

The meeting follows a phone call between the Chinese and U.S. presidents on June 5, where both leaders emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual respect. With global economic recovery under pressure—highlighted by the International Monetary Fund lowering its global growth forecast for 2025 to 2.8 percent—the collaboration between China and the U.S. takes on added significance.

“The two sides need to make good use of the economic and trade consultation mechanism already in place, and seek win-win results in the spirit of equality and respect for each other’s concerns,” said President Xi Jinping during the call.

The discussions addressed key issues such as technical control and tariff barriers, with both sides expressing a willingness to find common ground. Analysts suggest that if the U.S. adopts a pragmatic approach to technical export restrictions, it could ease production risks for its domestic industries and open new opportunities for global technological cooperation.

Trade between China and the U.S. remains vital for the global economy. In 2024, bilateral trade volume reached nearly $688.3 billion, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs in the United States. Major U.S. companies like Tesla and Apple continue to see growth in the Chinese market, underscoring the mutual benefits of cooperation.

Beyond trade, there is immense potential for collaboration in areas such as clean energy and the digital economy. The Chinese government has consistently emphasized that trade wars benefit no one and remains committed to sharing the opportunities of its vast domestic market with the world.

At this critical moment, the international community hopes that China and the U.S. will move beyond zero-sum thinking, rebuild mutual trust, and demonstrate the responsibility expected of major powers in building an open world economy.
