As China and Singapore celebrate 35 years of diplomatic relations, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong sat down with us ahead of his first official visit to China since taking office. He shared his insights on the evolution of China-Singapore ties, the successes of key intergovernmental projects, and the strategic significance of his upcoming visit in June 2025.
“We’ve come a long way since establishing diplomatic relations in 1990,” Prime Minister Wong reflected. “Our partnership has grown into an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented relationship.”
He highlighted major collaborative projects like the Suzhou Industrial Park, Tianjin Eco-city, and the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, emphasizing their roles in promoting green development, the digital economy, and innovation.
“These projects are more than just symbols of our cooperation; they are testbeds for new ideas that benefit not only our countries but the region as a whole,” he said.
Looking ahead to his 2025 visit, Prime Minister Wong expressed optimism about deepening ties. “The future holds great potential. We aim to strengthen our collaboration in emerging sectors and address global challenges together.”
