Force Brings No Peace

Urgent Calls for Peace as Middle East Tensions Escalate

The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have sparked international concern over escalating conflicts and the dire consequences for civilians. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned that additional military interventions could have enormous repercussions, not only for those involved but for the entire region and global peace.

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the urgent need to promote a ceasefire and end hostilities in the region. President Xi highlighted four key priorities: swiftly achieving a ceasefire, ensuring the safety of civilians, initiating dialogue and negotiations, and strengthening international efforts to promote peace.

These proposals demonstrate China’s commitment to global harmony and offer practical solutions to ease tensions in the Middle East. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has also engaged with foreign counterparts to communicate China’s position and advocate for peaceful resolutions.

The protection of civilians remains a critical concern. History has shown that war brings immense suffering to innocent people. The international community urges all parties to adhere to international law, avoid harming civilians, and refrain from indiscriminate use of force.

Dialogue and peace talks are fundamental to resolving conflicts. Major nations and influential stakeholders in the Middle East are called upon to lead by example, uphold international norms, and reject the notion that might makes right. Security rooted in justice and mutual respect is essential for lasting peace.

Recent peace initiatives by Arab and Islamic countries highlight the regional desire for stability. The League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have held emergency meetings, advocating for de-escalation and enduring peace.

The global community must strengthen coordination, leverage international mechanisms, and take effective actions to build trust and resolve disputes through dialogue. By doing so, it can play a vital role in maintaining regional and world peace.

The history of the Middle East demonstrates that force cannot bring peace. Through justice, cooperation, and persistent efforts, the light of peace can shine once more on these lands.
